Training for CCW • “In Context” • Realistic scenario – train like you fight • Never assume one target • As soon as you mentally or physically have stopped the threat, look around for the next • Practice tactical reloads/weapon clearance • Practice (including draws) • One handed • Off handed • Prone • Multiple targets • Prioritizing targets

Training for CCW • Practice drawing from all holsters with all guns to be used in that holster • Start dry firing with unloaded weapons, or Aimsoft simulation • Start slow but smooth, put in context to develop habit patterns • Muzzle control • Muscle memory • Tactical relevance • Culminate with live fire from the holster (we are lucky to have a range upon which we can do that) • Vary your targeting and angle of presentation

Rules of Dry Fire • Proper Mind Set • Treat with the respect deserving of a lethal weapon • Familiarity breeds complacency • Complacency causes Negligent Discharges • Control of Your Environment • No TV or Stereo • Take telephone off the hook • Close the drapes • Send the family on an errand • Select a simple target sized for the distance at which you want to be accurate (farther away, smaller target) • Don’t use common objects as targets (TV) • Place target in front of something capable of stopping a bullet

21. Rules of Dry Fire cont. • Separation from Ammunition • Unload the weapon and put ammunition in another room • Chamber check the weapon • Recite the mantra “ the weapon Is unloaded and I am ready for dry practice” • Reset • Put away the target at the end of practice (one more time syndrome) • At the end of practice, return the weapon to fighting mode in its appropriate location and say out loud “the weapon is loaded and dry fire is over.”
