Asteroid 147918 Chiayi was discovered on October 25, 2006, by Q.-z. Ye and H.-C. Lin at the Lulin Observatory in Chiayi County, Taiwan. Located at the heart of the island, Chiayi is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and stunning tourist spots, such as the first monument to the Tropic of Cancer and the picturesque Ali Mountain, famous for its breathtaking "sea of clouds." Chiayi county has many tourist attractions, including the world's first monument to the Tropic of Cancer and the scenic Ali Mountain with a mountain railway leading to the summit to view the fantastic "sea of clouds".
