  1. Reclaim that two car Garage! Self Storage Salt Lake

  2. Fall is a great time to take a look at those areas in your home that tend to collect clutter all year long. Do you find yourself having a difficult time parking two vehicles in your garage because of all of the things you have been meaning to store somewhere? Fall is the perfect time to get rid of the mess before the winter hits.

  3. Here are 5 ways to remove clutter and reclaim your Two Car Garage. • Move it out - Get Organized • The first Step is to take everything out of your garage. Just like cleaning out your closet, you must first find the space you want to organize. Once you have everything out, throw away items you no longer need, and then organize the rest into two different categories: items you want to keep at your house, things you can store offsite at a self storage Salt Lake facility. Now you are ready to really get organized.

  4. 2. Buy storage shelves and set them up • Now that you have a clean slate to work with, you need to create a place for the items you want to keep in your garage. Local membership stores like Sam’s Club sell metal shelves that work perfectly for storing items in your garage. Figure out the number of shelves you will need for the area you have and buy/build these storage shelves.

  5. 3. Decide how to organize the new Space • Map out the new, clean area and decide where you want things to be located. Remember that the purpose is to be able to use your garage! Put the shelving units in place and decide if the layout will work before placing any items on the shelves. This will allow you to visualize the space with the shelves in place. You can even practice pulling your cars into the garage to make sure there is plenty of room on each side to get out and maneuver around the vehicle.

  6. Separate your items into different Categories • Take the pile of items you created and separate them into categories according to uses. Once you have decided what categories you want, create a dedicated space on your shelves for that category. Make sure you have enough room in that dedicated category for the items you have and potential items you may store there in the future.

  7. Place similar items next to each other on the shelves and make sure you label the shelf with the category that belongs there. This will make it a lot easier to find things. A good example of this is to place automotive products such as oil, antifreeze, etc. in a similar location next to each other.

  8. Take you excess Items to the Self Storage Unit • Once everything is cleaned up and the items you are keeping in the garage are placed on their newly labeled shelves, it is time to take the excess clutter to a self-storage salt lakefacility.
