  2. The Senior Executive Service (SES) are the executive leaders of the Federal civilian workforce. Members of the SES serve in the key positions just below the top Presidential appointees. What is the Senior Executive Service

  3. SES members are the major link between appointees and the rest of the Federal work force. They operate and oversee nearly every government activity in approximately 75 Federal agencies. Link between appointees and Federal workforce

  4. SES positions are classified above GS-15 or equivalent. ST (scientific and professional) positions are classified above the GS-15 level and involve high-level research and development. SL (senior level) positions are classified above GS-15. The work of the position does not meet the SES criteria nor does it involve the fundamental research and development responsibilities that are characteristic of ST positions. SL positions may be in either the competitive or excepted service. What's the difference between SES, ST, and SL positions?

  11. SES Candidate Development Programs are competitive programs designed to develop the executive qualifications of employees with strong executive potential. Participation in an SESCDP is not a prerequisite for obtaining an SES appointment. Candidate development program

  12. All CDPs address the five Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) that embody the leadership skills needed to succeed in the SES. These skills apply to all SES positions and are in addition to the technical qualifications that agencies specify for particular positions.   13. Typically, CDPs are 18-24 months and are open to GS-14s/15s or employees at equivalent levels from within or outside the Federal Government. Each agency decides how large its program will be, based on its executive resources needs. CDP Time commitment
