The Romans lived in Rome, a city in the centre of the country of Italy. According to the Roman legend, Romulus was the founder of Rome. Romulus and his twin brother Remus were the sons of the God Mars

  3. ROMAN ARMY The Roman army was made up of groups of soldiers called legions. There were over 5,000 soldiers in a legion. Each legion had its own number, name, badge and fortress. The Roman army was divided into legions of about 5,000 men.

  4. ROMAN WEAPONS The legionary wore his sword high on the right side of his body. This enabled it to be drawn underarm with his right hand without interfering with the shield which he carried in his left. A soldier carried two spears to throw at the enemy.

  5. ROMAN WEAPONS The spears were just over two metres* long and they were designed to bend and stick in the enemy's shield so he cannot use it to protect himself. They were difficult to pull out and will bend on impact, so they couldn't be thrown back at the attacking Roman soldiers

  6. ROMAN SOLDIERS The spread of the Roman Empire was partly due to the fact that the Roman army was so well organised. At the time of its invasion of Britain .

  7. Julius Caesar was born on July 13 100 B.C. He was a great soldier and general. He helped to take over new land for the Roman Empire. JULIUS CAESER

  8. Julius caesar 55 B.C. Caesar, with 80 ships and 80.000 men, tried to invade England but he didn't succeed. He was stabbed to death at a meeting of the Senate in 44 BC and the era of the Republic ended.

  9. Julius caeser Julius Caesar was born in 100 BC. He was a great soldier. He helped to take over new land for the Roman Empire. He made many changes like the new calendar and the starting of a daily newspaper

  10. He also totally changed the law. He became the most powerful man and sole leader in Rome and some people thought he was too powerful and that he wanted to be king
