Tuesday, August 27 WU: Write down assignments; Get out Military Connection and Foster Care Forms • Introductions • Set up binders • Go over classroom procedures (power point) • Pre- AP Summer Reading The Other Side of the Sky Quick Write- Write about the sights and smells of the summer using all 5 senses in spiral or a piece of notebook paper

Wednesday, August 28 • Wu: Write in planner, Get out Military Connection and Foster Care Forms; finish quick write • What makes a short story? • Review Elements of a Short Story using Flocabulary video • Read “ Conversation Piece” • With a partner answer the questions • Short Story Notes • Homework: get supplies

  5. Thursday, August 29 Wu: write in planner, get out Military Connection and Foster Care Forms • Read “The Pie” by Gary Soto • Identify the elements of a short story -notice the imagery and figurative language • Graphic Organizer- Plot Diagram

  6. Imagery • Imagery can be created by details in the story that appeal to the senses of sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. “Sweet, slow drops of rich orange juice drip from the corners of my mouth and drool off my chin” (Burton 3).

  7. Example Quotes “I listened, ear pressed to a cold pipe, and heard a howl like the sea” (Soto 1). “The sun wavered between the branches of a yellowish sycamore” (Soto 1).
