  2. We cannot teach like we’ve taught forever We must educate the students we have, not the student we used to have, nor the student we wished we had. We must adapt to today's student, not them adapting to us. We must change ourselves to adapt to their world.

Technology Tip #4 PowerPoint me Through This 2 Ways to Blank the Screen: During a presentation your audience will naturally focus on the screen rather than the presenter.  To get the audiences attention back on the presenter you could blank the screen during the presentation.  Here's how to do it:        Type the letter "B" and the screen will go black     Type the letter "W" and the screen will go white 1 Way to draw on the screen     Right click on the screen and select "Pointer Options" and then "Pen“

  11. Technology Tip #5 Take A Picture of Your Screen To take a screen shot simply press CTRL and Print SCRN/SysRq in the upper right hand corner of your keyboard. Now, open a new document and click CTRL V to paste the item in the document (or right click and paste).

  16. Technology Tip #10 Time to Make the E-mails Did you know that you can use Microsoft Outlook to make emails in advance and have them go out automatically hours, days, weeks, months or even years later?

Technology Tip #11 Store It in Your CyberCloset Have you ever lost something you saved to a disk?  Ever had your home computer crash?  Pretty annoying to lose everything isn’t it?  Here’s a way to save files so they are accessible anywhere in the world without carrying a disk around or saving them to your computer. JUST E-MAIL IT TO YOURSELF!

Technology Tip #12 Go to M.I.T. for Free As part of its mission to “advance knowledge and education, and serve the world in the 21st century” the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has decided to put all their courses online for free.  They call it Open Course Ware or OCW and the stated goals of the program are:  MIT OCW's goals are to: Provide free, searchable, access to MIT's course materials for educators, students, and self-learners around the world. Extend the reach and impact of MIT OCW and the "opencourseware" concept. http://ocw.mit.edu/index.html

  20. Technology Tip #14 Edit undo, Undo, UNDOOO! Have you ever made a mistake? The programmers of the Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher, etc.) knew we would make mistakes so they programmed in a couple of ways to “undo” them.  Here are a few ways to undo your next mistake: OPTION #1:  On the menu bar select “Edit” and then “Undo.”  OPTION #2:  On the tool bar you can use this button to undo something you just did  OPTION #3:  There's also a keyboard shortcut to undo something you just did.  Try using CTRL + Z to undo and CTRL + Y to bring something back that you undid.

Technology Tip #18 Can You Control Your Outlook Did you know that there are some unique CTRL options in each Microsoft program.  For example, below are some things you could try the next time you’re using Outlook for your email: And for a bonus here’s one more shortcut to try:  ALT + S will send an email

  25. Technology Tip #19 Did They Read My E-mail? Did you ever wonder if anyone actually opened your email?  There is a way to confirm that your email was delivered and to be informed of when an email was opened by the recipient.  This is only going to work in the full version of Microsoft Outlook but other email systems might have similar options.

Technology Tip #20 Cite Me A Citation Online There are several websites out there that will format citations for you.  Check these sites out: http://citationmachine.net/ http://www.easybib.com/ Students will find these sites and they will use them if given the opportunity.  It's up to their teachers to be aware of these sites and be prepared to honestly talk to them about them.

Technology Tip #26 How to Catch the Big Images Do you have trouble finding pictures on the internet?  When you do finally find a picture from the internet does it look all grainy when you enlarge it to fit in your PowerPoint show?   33. Technology Tip #27 Spring Cleaning Did you know that every time you visit a website a complete copy of that website as well as all the pictures on it is downloaded and stored on your computer? Delete cached copies Defragging Your Hard Drive

Technology Tip #28 BCC Me Sometime Did you ever want to send an email to a whole bunch of people but you didn't want everyone on your email list to know who everyone else is?  Or did you ever have a need to secretly share an email conversation with another person?  Then you need to know what that Bcc is for on your email list.

  35. Technology Tip #29 Making a Photo Story Here's a free download from Microsoft that can help you make some real professional looking slideshows on your computer. You could do it all in PowerPoint but this free software from Microsoft is much easier to use.
