The Exiles Decree of 324 BC: A Turning Point for Greek Exiles
The Exiles Decree, announced by Alexander the Great in Susa in 324 BC, allowed those exiled from Greek states for political reasons to return home. This announcement was made during a gathering of troops and was later proclaimed by Nicanor at the Olympic Games, igniting cheers from the 20,000 attendees. However, the decree also brought significant challenges, including the need for Greek cities to accept returning citizens and address issues surrounding confiscated properties.
