  6. now days it means wide spread accusation of something that has no prove for • Joseph Raymond McCarthy started this term  • the time period for McCarthyism is from 1949 to 1954 • 1950 is the year that the people started to believe in him (Nicholas 143-144)

  7. The Founder of McCarthyism • Joseph Raymond McCarthy was the founder of McCarthyism • he was born in November 14, 1908 • near Appleton, Wis., United States • he died on May 2, 1957, in Bethesda, Md.

He made numerous charges that certain public officials and other individuals were Communists or cooperated with Communists • usually with little evidence • he started that term is because he wanted to change the government to his liking • his goal is to try to achieve the transformation of the United States government (“McCarthy, Joseph Raymond” 610-611)

  10. What did McCarthyism influence • McCarthyism exemplified the tensions in American Society in an age of mass politics, and corporate organization • many innocent families had to be separated because of McCarthyism

How did McCarthyism end • McCarthyism ended in the year of 1954 • it ended because McCarty accused the Department of State and other government agencies in Washington being full of Communists • in fact, only one former diplomat, Alger Hiss has been convicted • in 1950, because of perjury in connection with charges of having worked for Russians; guilt still remains for today (Harry Mills 144)
