  4. experience Early life 1. He hoped to become a wealthy gentleman. 2. At the age of 17, George took a job measuring land as a surveyor. When his brother died in 1752, he inherited his large farm called Mount Vernon. 3. During the French and Indian War, he became a young soldier.
