  3. What is Paraphrasing??? • PARAPHRASING IS… • A rewriting of text in your own words • Used to clarify meaning • Used to lengthen a longer statement while keeping the main ideas

  4. So How Do We Do It? • Read the passage carefully • Decide the main ideas of the passage • Highlight important words or phrases • Put the main points in your own words PARAPHRASE ME!

  6. Example 1 Passage from Book Ancient Egyptians believed that Osiris, a good and wise king, was the first pharaoh. He spread knowledge to other parts of the world, while his wife, Isis, ruled Egypt in his place.

A second expedition proved him right when he found the outlet of the Nile at a waterfall, which he named Ripon Falls.

  17. There are no US federal laws that either allow or prohibit nudity. The courts have not ruled whether the right to engage in nudism is guaranteed by the Constitution under its freedom of expression provision. Thus, the legality of various forms of nudity is currently left up to the individual states and localities to decide. Nudity is generally allowed in some areas or some national parks, unless local laws have prohibited it. • In the United States there are no specific laws for or against nudity.  Courts have not decided whether or not the Constitution has stated that people have the right to public nudism.In turn, individual states are left to decide for themselves. Nudity is allowed in a few areas and parks unless states have local laws that state otherwise.
