Articles agree in gender and number with the noun that they accompany. • So - articles, like nouns are either masculine or feminine, and either singular or plural ************************************ • masculine singular (ms) - el chico • masculine plural(mpl) - los chicos • femininesingular (fs) - la chica • feminine plural (fpl) - las chicas

  3. DEFINITE ARTICLES • Definite articles translate “the”. • The feminine definite articles come before feminine nouns: la, las • The masculine definite articles come before masculine nouns: el, los

  4. INDEFINITE ARTICLES • Indefinite articles translate “a / an” in the singular and “some / any” in the plural. • The feminine indefinite articles come before feminine nouns: una, unas • The masculine indefinite articles come before masculine nouns: un, unos • When an unmodified noun followsser or a form of ser, do NOT use an article in Spanish. Ella es profesora.

  6. When referring to males and females as a single group, or to masculine and feminine objects together, always use the masculine plural: los estudiantes los chicos the boys the boys and girls the boy students the boy and girl students

  7. Always remember and never forget: you only get to use ONE article. You have to make a choice based on what you want to say!

  8. ALWAYS REMEMBER AND NEVER FORGET • Often, articles are used in Spanish even if they aren’t used in English.
