Nivethan- An Introduction • A registered Non Profit Organization based in Madurai, Tamil Nadu state of India • Registered as a Trust under Indian Public Trust Act • Registered under 12 A(aa) & donations are exempted under 80 G of the Income Tax Act, 1961 • Founded in the year 2006 by a group of three socially committed individuals • Presently engaged in activities related to emergency relief, healthcare, education and caring elders

Our Programmes Mitra- Donate Blood, Save life: An initiative to pool the light hearted souls in providing blood to the needy and downtrodden Mission Thalassemia: Supporting children suffering with Thalassemia for their treatment and cure Chavadi- Noon Meal for the uncared aged Education for the deprived (Nurture Merit Program) - Financial assistance for education of needy students - Students Learning Centre- Computer & library Facilities for the slum children Emergency relief work: Support for families affected by disasters like flood, cyclone, drought, etc

MITRA- Donate Blood, Save Lives • An initiative to pool the light hearted souls in providing blood to the needy and downtrodden • Our initiatives • Organising blood donation camps • Database of blood donors in Madurai • Networking with voluntary blood donors organisations • Arranging blood for needy • Awareness camps and seminars

Mission Thalassemia • Counseling Thalassemia patients and parents for their treatment and cure • Providing free medicines to children suffering with Thalassemia through Government Hospital, Madurai • Financial assistance to Thalassemia patients for Bone Marrow Transplant which is the only cure • Awareness creation and Knowledge sharing about Thalassemia among general public • Resource Centre for Thalassemia patients @ Madurai

  6. - contd.. • Presently providing free medicines to 66 Thalassemia patients who are getting treatment from Govt. Hospital, Madurai • Raised 30 lakhs to support Bone Marrow Transplant of two Thalassemia patients – Md.Hussain & Nafra • Made a documentary about Thalassemia- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTKyneuuDEE • Engaged in establishing a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Madurai for Thalassemia cure in association with Cure2Children Foundation, Italy and Ceyrac Hospital, Madurai

  8. Chavadi- Noon Meal for the aged • Noon Meal for the aged program started from January 2010 • Every day 15 elderly people are fed who are deprived, deserted by families and who are unable to take care of themselves • Diet menu obtained from nutrient experts/consultants

Education for the deprived • Financial assistance to poor but meritorious students for continuing their education • So far 25 students have been assisted • Financial assistance is provided based on the merit and poverty • Poverty is assessed by individual house visits • Students Learning Centre • Providing opportunities to children from slum areas to learn computer and also library facilities to enhance their knowledge and learning • Nivethan presently runs two students learning centres in Madurai

Emergency Relief • Support for families affected during disasters like flood, cyclone, Tsunami, drought, etc • What we have done • Collection of mats, clothes, rice and money for victims of Earth Quake in Gujarat • Volunteering support to NGOs in Cuddalore and Pondicherry during Tsunami in the year 2004 • Provided 500 new mats, rice and candles to victims of Thane Cyclone in Cuddalore with the support of Serve The Needy, Hyderabad during February 2012
