  2. Vocabulary • County seat: is the capital of a county. It is where the government for the county is found. The county seat is usually the largest town or city in the county, oldest, or most central town or city. • Board of county commissioners: is a group of elected officials charged with administering the county government in some states of the United States. • County assessor: is a specialist who calculates the value of property. • County treasurer: is official responsible for the billing and collection of real property taxes. • County auditor: official appointed by a district judge to audit county finances • County coroner: is a government official who confirms and certifies the death of an individual within a jurisdiction. • County sheriff: is a legal official with responsibility for a county. • County clerk: is an elected county official who is responsible for local elections and maintaining public records. • County prosecutor: is a lawyer who argues in a court that another the defendent has committed a crime. • Character of home rule: is who oversees the day to day operation of the county.

  3. Local government • Local government: isthe administration of a particular town, county, or district, with representatives elected by those who live there.

  4. County government A county, in the United states, is a form of government that is right below the state. 48 out of the 50 states in the United States uses counties. County government isthe administration of the local affairs of a city, town, or other district by its inhabitants.

  5. County commission government A county commission (also known as a board of county commissioners) is a group of elected officials charged with administering the county government in some states of the United States. County commissions are usually made up of three or more individuals.

  7. The united states census • The United States Census is a census done in the United States every ten years. It is required by the United States Constitution. The count is used to determine how many places in the House of Representatives each state has. It also determines how much government money is spent in different locations.

  8. Political parties of the united states In the United States, there have always been two main political parties. Since the 1860s, these two main parties have been the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. The Democrats are also the largest party in the Senate. The Republican Party has the most seats in the House of Representatives.

  9. the democrat partie The Democratic Party's first President was Andrew Jackson who was elected in 1828 and many Presidents such as Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and the current President Barack Obama are Democrats. They have 53 out of 100 seats in the U.S. Senate and 189 out of 435 seats in the House of Representatives. Twenty-six out of 50 state governors are also Democrats.

  10. The republican party The Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party and its first President was Abraham Lincoln in 1861. The party has led America with such figures as Ulysses S. Grant, Benjamin Harrison, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. The party has 47 out of 100 seats in the Senate and 240 out of 435 seats in the House of Representatives. Republican John Boehner will become the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives on January 4, 2011. Twenty-four out of 50 states have a Republican governor. It has around 55 million registered voters across America. Currently, the Republican Party is identified as conservative and right-wing.

  11. Right wing and left wing left-wing means an attitude that sees social equality as very important. Someone who is right-wing in politics is usually someone who supports social or economic conservatism. Right-wing refers to the right side of the political spectrum which wants less government involvement in the economy while left-wing refers to the left side of the political spectrum which supports more government involvement in the economy.
