  1. Triple X Syndrome Katie Villegas

  2. Description It is a form of chromosomal variation characterized by the presence of an extra X chromosome in each cell of a human female. It is only found upon women, unlike man who are XY, women are distinguished by XX as their sex. The reason it only occurs in women is because there is an extra X, thus for it’s name, Triple X.

  3. Cause It occurs because of an error cell division called non-disjunction, failure to separate correctly during meiosis. Triple X is the outcome due to the parents during the division of a parent's reproductive cell. Unlike most other chromosomal conditions, there is usually no difference to the naked eye between women with triple X and the rest of the female population.

  4. Example • anegg or sperm cell may gain an extra copy of the X chromosome as a result of the non-disjunction. If one of these cells contributes to the genetic makeup of a child, the child will have an extra X chromosome in each of her cells. In some cases, triple X occurs during cell division in early embryonic development.

  5. Symptoms None really, rare cases when the physical structure is unbalanced, like height. Periods might be off
