  2. Why is this soimportant? “…A small part of the globe, accounting for some 15% of the earth's population, provides nearly all of the world's technology innovations. A second part, involving perhaps half of the world's population, is able to adopt these technologies in production and consumption. The remaining part, covering around a third of the world's population, is technologically disconnected, neither innovating at home nor adopting foreign technologies. …” “A new map of the world”, Jeffrey Sachs, The Economist, Jun 22nd 2000.

  3. Major innovations created by small firms in the 20th century

  4. Small entrepreneurs are responsible for more than half of all innovations during 20 sentury: 67 percent of inventions and 95 percent of radical innovations since World War II; (National Commision on Entrepreneurship White Paper: Embracing innovation – Entrepreneurship and American Economic Growth) Why is this soimportant?

  5. From the idea to commercial implementation passes 3-5 years. And only 1 out of 10 innovations reaches the market. Meanwhile, only 10-30% of new startups survive during thefirst 2-3 years. Why is this soimportant?

  6. Why isso hard for start-ups? • What do they have?: • product - no, • customers - no, • income – no, • … just an idea. • ...and the belief that within a couple of years theywill stand on their ownlegs. “Have you ever thought that you are on the incredible breakthrough threshold? "
