  1. Setting Goals and Objectives

  2. What are Goals??? • Goals are broad generalized statements about what it is to be learned. • Goals represent the bigger picture or the end result.

  3. What are Instructional Objectives??? • Instructional objectives are specific, measurable, short-term. • Objectives are the foundation to build lessons and assessments . • Objectives are the tools to make sure goals are reached.

  4. Types of Objectives: • Psychomotor: Physical skills • Cognitive: Understandings, awareness, insights. • Affective: Attitudes, appreciations, relationships.

  5. How to write objectives • Audience: who? Who is the objective aimed at? • Behavior: what? What do you expect them to be able to do? • Condition: How? Under what circumstances will the learning occur? • Degree: How much? What is the specific set of criteria to be met?

  6. Identifying pedagogical goals and Objectives • Objectives should be clear to you before you design activities for the lesson. • Planning an assessment begins with identifying skills and understanding to make up the goals. • 3 Stages to plan goals: Stage 1: what are the desired results? Stage 2: How will you verify the results? Stage 3: How will you design the learning experience?

  7. Keep in mind… • Goals tend to be more general, pedagogical goals describe what the student will be capable of doing after the lesson! • Objectives are specific and they contribute to overall goals!
