  4. Mobilizing Stem for Sustainability Drive faculty and course development that supports the integration of sustainability-related problems in introductory level STEM courses. Advance high-quality STEM education with a focus on promoting sustainability within New Mexico’s communities. • Outcome: Sustainability concepts and theories are integrated into curriculum across disciplines, especially in STEM disciplines. • Outcome: Partnerships between faculty, facilities employees and students that explore sustainability concepts and theories through campus facilities. • Outcome: Active learning projects are implemented that contribute to both student learning and a sustainable campus.

CNM Campus as Living Lab Approach Increase Engagement & Stakeholders • Establish Learning Community - faculty, students, facilities and industry • Extend Facilities Staff – Service Learning projects and industry involvement • Involve Arts & Sciences and Career Technical Schools • Strengthen industry partnerships and access to workforce training Increase Sustainability Curriculum & Applied Learning • Benchmark current inventory • Provide incentives for faculty professional development and curriculum development • Appeal to passion for sustainability • Fund with energy rebates from sustainability projects

Involving Industry Integration with Student Engagement During RFP vendor process, request detailed information on how respondent will work with CNM faculty and staff to integrate project into the curriculum as well as research opportunities for students and faculty in multiple disciplines including: • Sustainability • Business and Finance • Renewable or Clean Energy • Power Generation • Electrical Engineering • Science and Alternative Technology • Environmental Studies • Sustainable Architecture

Industry Vendor Projects Waste Management Project • Earth Week, RecycleMania • Service Learning Projects Photovoltaic Solar Installation Project • 4 Campuses – 1 Demonstration Lab • Curriculum and Service Learning • Arts & Sciences and Career Technical Building Management Controls Project • 1 Campus building - system demonstration lab for Building Management Controls • Curriculum and Service Learning • Partnering with 2 NM community colleges for regional approach

  8. 2014 Measuring Progress • Measuring baseline sustainability rating at CNM with Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), a framework for colleges & universities to measure their sustainability performance. • CNM – UNM 2 + 2 Articulation with BA Sustainability Minor for Fall 2014. • Case study of NM approach to increase applied STEM education through sustainability. • “Campus as Living Lab” projects.

Partnering with CA Campus as Living Lab • Contrast approaches and best practices in implementation at a 4-year university system and a 2-year independent community college. • NM Sustainability Team visits CA Team‘s Campus as Living Lab Symposium to view their outreach process to faculty, staff and facilities for round 1 – approach, process and documentation shared. • Meetings and progress reports at Mobilizing STEM meetings and CA - NM Team video conference. • Planning CA - NM Faculty & Facility Staff Symposium in San Francisco late Spring for CA round 2.
