  1. Methodological and Conceptual Obstacles In the Realization of Tactical Periodization Jorge Maciel Nuno Amieiro • Porto Alegre, Brazil, August 2011

  2. Tactical Periodization… *It’s not a “slogan”, but a conceptual-methodological reality… • Guided by a set of METHODOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES • Comes from a DIFFERENT concept of football, of the individual and of life!

  3. If the concept is different, the ways of thinking are different and the approximation to reality is made by paths other than those accepted by most as "normal" or "mandatory.” • In order that the Tactical Periodization "wavelength" is followed, it is necessary to break with a lot of what is "normal”. It is required, in most cases, to break these "mandatory requirements”!!

  4. Reality pre-exists in our conception of things. • The question is whether the idea adjusts to it. Vítor Frade Indian or Eskimo?

  5. “Tactics may change game to game depending on the opponent"

  6. Confusion… An observation... Structure = Tactics Strategy = • Tactics

  7. Structure • Lifeless • Basic geometric configuration Tactics Dynamics Culture Positioning Emergency!!! Complex and Dynamic Reality Game Idea • Principles of Game • Intentionalizing criteria • Conceptual Matrix Strategy • Strategic circumstantial nuances • A bet like addition • Safety First!!!

  8. I see tactics as an emergence which orders in a particular way each of the other dimensions. The process of tactical emergence has to do with what the cooks do, that is the handling of spices for cooking a dish, and afterwards, a flavor emerges. Vítor Frade

  9. Often, in radio and in newspapers, people are referring to, at most, the strategic nuances, but talk of 'tactics'. When I talk about tactics, I talk about game culture, I speak of an understanding of the game. And culture has to do with positioning, with what we do spontaneously. • I.e., a group of individuals will do something spontaneously, but 'forced' by the same culture. Therefore, the tactical is the acquisition of something, ie, a form of play, as a gaming culture. Vítor Frade

  10. Time Process • Tactical Periodization • Projecting the acquisition of a game over time • Designing the training as a teaching-learning process

  11. “It is to train the game model ”

  12. Adopted Game Model versus • Game Model Methodological Principles • Initial Sketch (Game Idea) • Context (surrounding reality and circumstances of the here and now) Divine Proportion • Game Model

  13. The act of modeling requires a lot of knowledge and scientific rigor, but also because it is not linear, it takes great sensitivity and intuition. Vítor Frade Sensitivity and intuition. Acting in divine proportion.

  14. Will there be any coach who does not know how they want to play and not the training?! • Will there be any coach who, more or less systematic in his head, does not have a Game Idea? • It seems that no, there will hardly be ... The question is TRYING TO ARRIVE at your game, as in the attempt to give birth, i.e. in the process, in the LOGIC OF THE PROCESS! • What are the day-to-day concerns? • What is the methodological framework of the process?

  15. Principle of propensities • Methodological principles • Tactical Periodization • Principle of Alternation in Horizontal specificity • Principle of Complex Progression

  16. ”Play small-sided games!"

  17. Sometimes yes, sometimes no!!! • * What do you want to train? (Principle of Complex Progression) • * Which Day of the Morphocycle? (Principle of Alternation in Horizontal Specificity) • Creating Contexts of Experience/Learning • (Principle of Propensities) • Reducing without impoverishing • (Quantitative Reduction vs. Qualitative Reduction)

  18. "I also do this, always training with the ball!" There is a ball, therefore it’s a game! To look good in the picture?

  19. At any given time, I can be more consistent with the logic of Tactical Periodization by doing something without the ball than someone who is training with the ball! • It means always training for the growth of team play. Modeling • Methodological principles • Giving Life to Hierarchy • Contextualization • Procedural Matrix (Conceptual + Methodological) • Game Ideas • Previous Intention • ”Trickery" • Conceptual Matrix • The Play • ATTITUDE • Intention in act • Previous intention • "Thinking as a function of the same thing at the same time" • Contents of Training • Permanent Articulation of Meaning, to give us a Meaning

  20. "They know what to do, I already told them"

  21. 'What do I do here and now?' • Make decisions in nonlinear contexts ... In the heat of the action ... When emotion takes hold of us! ...

  22. Conflict between Prior Intention and Intention while in the Act • Prior intentions (conscious) • Intentions in the Act (mostly unconscious) • What I'm used to doing • What they are asking me to do

  23. Prior intentions • Intentions in the act • Habit that is acquired in the action in the scheme of understanding of a certain mind-habit relationship • (concomitant development of a know-how and a knowledge about this know-how)

  24. Information does not change behavior! • Habit is a know-how that is acquired in action. • The "trinta e um de boca” game is relevant when it appears as a complement to training. Vítor Frade

  25. "The team worked hard, trained well" More than he can chew!

  26. Training for what purpose? Training Acquiring BUT… • Acquiring involves creating conditions for acquisition, ie safeguarding the conditions for which acquisition is given effectively. • Relationship Performance - Recovery

  27. Dynamics of Performance To Train = To Acquire Dynamics of Recovery

  28. In pre-season, the coach does not have much more time to train compared to the competitive period. That which is training, that which is the demands on the whole body, the coach has no more.Eventually he will have a little more because of the lack of a competitive environment, but do not be deceived, because if what you want is to effect the acquisition of a given dynamism by the team, the players will not be able to if they are tired. The coach can spend more time in terms of identification, abstraction, in conversation, in formal side ... But this does not solve a lot. What comes to the sphere of knowledge-about-know-how is not incorporated soon into know-how. Vítor Frade

  29. "Yesterday was the day of strength, today is the day of endurance and tomorrow is the day of speed" Stigma of the athlete: always faster, higher and stronger...

  30. An observation… • Standard muscle contraction • ConditionalCapacities • Direct Association • Horizontal Alternation is done on the basis of what? • And for what purpose? • Pattern of Muscular Contraction • + • Purposes to experience • Allow the acquisition to be given • Principle of Alternation in Horizontal specificity

  31. "In Tactical Periodization, the physical does not exist"

  32. Of course it exists! ... • The tactical is not physical, it is not technical, it's not psychological, it is not strategic, but it needs them to manifest itself Vítor Frade • What does not exist is the physical for the sake of physical. This does not exist! It is not included separately as an end in itself, outside the hierarchicalbringing to life of our game. Physical Strategic • Bringing to life the various dimensions Technical Psychological • Acquisition in various dimensions • Articulation of Meaning/ Singularity

  33. My Game • Specificity of Adaptability • (the physical game does not exist in catalog list!!!) • A gesture and motor patterns that are characteristic of it • (“tunings "that minimize impact and improve the body-context relationship)

  34. ” Tactical Periodization is good, but there are things that can not work in the game"

  35. Cause structural and functional changes in muscle in default of the context clearly has adverse effects on the whole, that is, for the player, within the context. • This does not translate into increased adaptability, but precisely the opposite!

  36. An observation... Body Play

  37. An observation ... Body Plasticity Specificity Adaptability

  45. An observation ...

  46. What the body worries about, it makes stronger... • A procedural adaptability which, acting in specificity on what is plastic, brings out an individual functionality that nourishes the Collective Functionality . Corpo Plasticidade Especificidade Adaptabilidade

  47. Anyway ... • To incorporate involves creating conditions in order to incorporate, and this involves recognizing all the implications of continued experience of a game • (parasitic adaptations as collateral damage) • Importance of "tuning nuts and bolts"

  48. ” Tactical Periodization does not include injury prevention"
