  2. 3rd Period A real estate developer wants to build a strip mall on a piece of land where deer, squirrels, chipmunks, and fox are known to live

  3. The developer says the strip mall will bring in a lot of money for the community and will create 1000 jobs Group 1

  4. A group of conversationalists want that area to be designated as a state part where the wildlife will be protected and the natural resources will remain untouched Group 2

  5. You must present your arguments at the next city zoning meeting The challenge

  6. Each side will have 3 different groups of 3-4 people • Each group will create • A motto or a song stating their argument • A Visual Aid to get their point across • A Plan of Action Paper The Challenge

  7. This paper will include: • 3 to 4 paragraphs(depending how many people are in your group) • Introduction • 2 supporting arguments( this may be one paragraph if your group has 3 people or 2 paragraphs if you group has 4 people) • One will be positive and one will be negative towards the other side • Conclusion- you will tell me why your side is the best and why the city zoning commission should vote in your favor Plan of Action Paper

  8. Each paragraph must include • A hook or grabber • 3-4sentences with 2 references to your book(Chapter 21) • A strong concluding sentence Individual Paragraphs

  9. As a group you will create your motto and visual aid • Individually you will write one of the paragraphs. • You will be receiving a grade for the individual paragraph you write.

  10. Each group will present their motto, visual aid, and plan of action paper • Each side will elect one person to debate the issue with another person from the other side of the issue Presentations
