Euglena • Euglena have characteristics of plants and animals. • They contain chloroplasts which can produce carbohydrates. • When no sunlight is available, they consume other food. • They move using a whip-like tail called a FLAGELLA.

Spirogyra • Spirogyra is a chain-like algae that has spiral shaped chloroplasts.
Volvox • Volvox is ball-shaped and lives in colonies. • The colony rolls through the water using flagella.
Animal-like Protists: • Flagellates: have flagella • Ciliates: have cilia • Pseudopods: have foot-like extensions
Ciliates • Ciliates move using short, threadlike structures that surround the body. • Example: Paramecium.
Pseudopods • Pseudopod means “false foot.” • Pseudopods are foot-like extensions that the organism uses to move and trap food. • Example: Amoeba
