Significant changes to the FOTW for the 2010-2011 application processing cycle. • Easier URL – www.fafsa.gov • Application steps are shown across the top of the page. • Help text has been added to every page in a Help and Hints box on the right-hand side of the page. • Status messages will now display above the Help and Hints box on the right side of the page.

  4. Free Application! “You” refers to Student. Parent information sections are in purple!

  5. Independent versus Dependent: nothing to do with tax filing status. Independent ONLY if Answering “YES” to one of these questions:

  7. Hints • Don’t get caught up in the minor details. • Meet or beat all school deadlines • Remember – Dept of Ed doesn’t make awards – the school does. You won’t get an award letter from the Dept of Ed
