Creative Island Craft: Fun Learning with Physics and Art

Discover how a simple craft project turned into an engaging learning experience for kids! Using craft supplies, we created a vibrant island scene with blue cardstock for the ocean and air-dry modeling clay for the island, adorned with real shells and a cute cocktail parasol. As the children enjoyed crafting, they also learned a bit of physics by observing how wave crests behave around the island. This hands-on activity not only sparked creativity but also provided a fun way to understand the principles of wave behavior in shallow water.

  1. I just wanted to use up some craft supplies, but the kids loved making this island, and I they also learned a little bit of physics. The ocean is blue cardstock, decorated with handmade fish. The island is air-dry modeling clay decorated with real shells and a cocktail parasol. The physics? Note how the wave crests circle around the island, instead of running straight across the ocean. This is due to waves slowing in shallow water and bending toward the island.
