  1. JEHOVAH’S WITNESS DOCTRINE & THEOLOGY

  2. THE DOCTRINE OF GOD • Jehovah – the only true God • Eden – questioned God’s position of supreme sovereign. Could he create people who live faithfully to Him. His “witnesses” are declaring His name today. • Jehovah – is one person (the Trinity is false doctrine). They deny the deity of Jesus. Two statements from their handbook: • “Jesus is inferior to Jehovah” • “Jehovah is Christ’s God” • The Holy Spirit is God’s energizing force, not a Person • Genesis 1:2 –”God’s active force was moving to and fro over the surface of the waters”

  3. THE DOCTRINE OF CREATION • God created all that exists in three stages: • Created Jesus Christ – His master workman • Creation of angels – Lucifer created first, along with Jesus was a prince. Then all other angels given different ranks. • Creation of heavens and earth – each creation day was 7000 years long. DOCRINE OF JESUS CHRIST • Jesus – created and second great Personage • Jesus – also known as Michael, the archangel

  4. Watchtower doctrine says about Jesus: • Spirit person – most beloved, a god, but not equal to Jehovah. Did not possess immortality. • “lesser than Jehovah” – Philippians 2:6 NWT – “Christ Jesus . . . Gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God.” John 1:1 NWT – “In the beginning was the Word . . . And the Word was a god.” • Phil. 2:5-11 - “The Great Parabola” • “Born as a Human Son of God” – incarnate God is unscriptural, he gave up his deity to become man. He was an equal of Adam, sinless. • “Became the Messiah Seed in Fall” - when he was baptized he then became the spiritual Son of Jehovah again. He submitted to do Jehovah’s will.

  5. “Died as Ransomer” – died on a stake, not a cross. • “Resurrected Immortal on the Third Day” – God raised him from the dead, not as a human Son, but as an immortal spirit son. When he appeared to witness, he materialized, as angels before him had done. What became of Jesus body? “We know nothing about what became of it”

  6. BIBLE STUDY IS JESUS CALLED GOD?

  7. NIV John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. NIV John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known. NIV John 20:26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." 28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"

  8. NIV Romans 9:2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, those of my own race, 4 the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. 5 Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen. NIV Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope-- the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

  9. NIV Hebrews 1:8 But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. NIV 2 Peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God andSavior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: NIV Acts 20:28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. NIV 1 John 5:20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true-- even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

  10. THE DOCTRINE OF MAN • Man is a soul, but cannot exist apart from the body. • Death is the cessation of existence. Man does not possess the quality of deathlessness. • Biblical Christianity maintains that there is a soul and life after death (i.e. Jesus talks about Lazarus being in heaven). 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 tells us that believers will rise when Jesus comes back, the dead first and then the living. • 144,000 will receive immortality, the rest of the human souls will dwell forever on earth. Resurrection is recreation of the body from God’s “memory.” • Because of Adam’s sin, death was passed on to all mankind. Satan challenged God and His sovereignty was impugned. The vindication of His name is an issue before the universe.

  11. THE DOCTRINE OF SALVATION • Christ made atonement for sin, trading in His human existence for a spirit existence. He made it possible for man to obtain salvation. • Salvation is only for those who faithfully carry out God’s will. Those who do not receive eternal annihilation (Adam, Judas, etc.). • 144,000 will share in heavenly glory, and are “chosen ones”, and constitute the bride of Christ. • The other Jehovah’s Witnesses will enjoy the blessings of everlasting life on the earth. These “sheep” must: • Repent from sin • Be baptized by immersion • Continue in faith, obedience, endurance, and witnessing.

  12. DOCTRINE OF ESCHATOLOGY • In 1914 Jesus Christ was fully enthroned as King. • In 1918 He cleansed the “spiritual temple” and began to judge, starting with the 144,000, some of which had already died. • The Battle of Armageddon – Jehovah, Christ, and righteous forces battle Satan and his demonic forces. Jehovah wins and Satan is thrown into a abyss for 1000 years (the Millennium). Over 2 billion people will be killed. • The judgment of the nations began, people being divided into “sheep and goats.” The 144,000 will assist Christ as judges. • During the Millennium, Christ and the 144,000 will govern the faithful on the earth. Two groups of people will be resurrected at this time: pre-Christian faithful witness (Abraham, David, etc.) and those never given the opportunity to hear God’s commands. After hearing, they will be judged.

  13. Final judgment – Satan loosed. He, demons, and the unfaithful are thrown into the lake of fire and are annihilated. • Sheep will remain on earth in “paradisaic happiness.” • Founder - Charles Taze Russell in late 1800’s in Pittsburgh
