  4. Defining QuotesStylistically, Patrick is known for his humor … “I was not a kid you worried about.  I’d go out and shoot hoops by myself at eleven o’clock. Loved the solitude. Loved that make-yourself-better feeling. If you missed, nobody to blame but yourself. Car window down, stereo on in the Oldsmobile, just shooting hoops. On my court, at eleven at night, I was The Man. Come get some.”

  5. … And his ability to blend sports with insights on life. As a father, you think that your son is you. In my case, that he was gonnabe an athlete. My son is six foot five, but all along my wife kept saying, “He’s not wired the way you are.” I wanted him to experience what I’d gotten from sports, where you’re on a team and you’re helping, and those moments that define you when you win and you lose. When we’d go out and shoot, I’d tell him I was always gonna be better than him no matter how old I got. You know, try to goad him on. But he didn’t get the whole Sharks and Jets thing. He’d say, “Okay.” He taught me to not put him in a box. He’s an Eagle Scout. He just had different curiosities and fascinations that I never did. I realized that I had this myopic view of the world! He’s the smart one! He sees all of it! All the time I was thinking: He doesn’t get what it’s like to be me. And he was saying, “You don’t get what it’s like to be me!” Source: Esquire Magazine. 7. Influence Patrick is one of America’s most well-known sportscasters. His ability to effectively do television, radio, and print media make him incredibly versatile, available, and influential to the way sports are conveyed to the public. Every television sportscaster in America who attempts humor or wit in their narration owes a debt to Patrick, who has been “en fuego” for 25 years now.
