  10. SITUATION 1 A coworker is going through a hard divorce and has come to work looking unkempt a few times lately. Today they lost their temper, shouted at another worker and stormed out of work. This is unusual – they are usually so easy going. You follow them out to the parking lot to check in.

  11. SITUATION 2 Your sister is upset by her recent job loss. You know she will find new work, but she is worried she won’t. She begins avoiding your calls and is always “busy.” You hear from a mutual friend that she is canceling plans a lot, with everyone. You decide to drop by her place just to say ‘hi’.

  12. SITUATION 3 Your buddy just got another DUI and might lose his license for good this time. When you see him he looks a little down, but he doesn’t seem to care much about his legal trouble – he just keeps saying “it doesn’t matter.”

  13. KEY POINTS If you are concerned about someone, ask. If you notice warning signs, act. Umatter because you can make a difference.
