  4. What is Chinese New Year? Chinese New Year is a festival for the Chinese people. It originated from China but today Chinese people all over the world celebrate it.

  6. When is it celebrated? It is celebrated at the start of the Chinese calendar. This year it was celebrated on January 23 and will be celebrated on February 10 next year.

  8. Chinese Dragon Dance Dragon dance is a form of traditional dance and performance in Chinese culture. Like the lion dance it is most often seen in festive celebrations. They remember when the Dragon, Nien, came and ate the people.

  9. Lion Dance Lion dance is another form of traditional dance in Chinese culture. It is when the performers mimic a lion’s movement in a lion costume.

  15. Why did the Chinese people hang red lanterns and scrolls? According to tales and legends, it started with a fight against a mythical beast called Nian. Nian would come on the first day of the Chinese New Year to eat livestock, crops, and even villagers, especially children. One time, the people saw Nian scared of a kid wearing red and so people started to hang red lanterns and red spring rolls around the windows and doors during the Chinese New Year.
