  1. First Nations Vegetation

  2. How do the First Nations Survive? • The First Nations did have time to watch TV, they were always on the move • To survive they had to do everything by themselves • The five basic survival needs to survive are: • Food- found from animals, vegetation and the ocean seafood • Water- found from lakes, rivers and streams • Air- found from around the atmosphere • Clothes-found from animals with fur • Shelter-Build from any resources around them (logs, trees, bark, mud, twigs)

  3. What is Vegetation? • Vegetation is the area or land in which plants and crops grow. • There are three types of vegetation: • Natural vegetation; this is when the plants and crops grow naturally without human intervention. (First Nation practice) • Semi-Natural vegetation; this is when some human modifications require, but the rest is done by the spark of nature. • Cultural vegetation; this is when the humans must succeed in planting the plants or crops individually without natures’ benefit.

  4. Different Vegetation Regions • A vegetation region is a specific • place in which a plant or crop grows • The tundra is a low vegetation region • Because there is a scarce amount of • soil • The coniferous forest has a high • vegetation of coniferous trees and • needs a rich amount of soil. • Wetlands have a high amount of • shrubs, mosses and not much trees.

  5. The 4 Seasons • There are 4 seasons: Winter, summer, • fall and spring. • Each season has it’s own affect on the • vegetation. • Spring is the best time to plant crops • and plants because it is rainy. • Summer is growing season when • everything forms and starts to grow. • Fall is the harvesting season where all • the crops and plants are meant to be • harvested. • Winter is when you should keep your • plants safe from the harsh cold season • of winter.

  6. Soil and Water • It depends on how much water you have • and the abundance of soil to determine • how a plant will grow. • Too much soil will lead to longer growth • period resulting as a late harvest. • Too much water will make the soil expand • and gain weight which might delay plant • growth. • The plant’s growth and harvest must not be • delayed for after winter because the plant • would die and there would be less food for • the clan, tribe, etc
