International Partnering Meeting, Winterthur, Switzerland Our competences • Department Life Cycle Engineering (GaBi), University of Stuttgart, Germany • Working in sustainability analysis and environmental issue • 12 full-time academic staff • Over 150 industry and research projects carried out world-wide • Above 15 European funded projects in the 5th and 6th EU Framework Programme BIOFOAM, BASE, BIOGASMAX, BIOMINE, LABELAGRIWASTE, etc. • Various national funded projects • More than 150 person-years experience in this field • GaBi group - together with its spin-off company PE Europe GmbH - the world's largest working group in the field of Life Cycle Engineering

International Partnering Meeting, Winterthur, Switzerland Our competences Our competences and main fields of actions: Quantitative assessment from a technical systemic point of view for • PROCESSES • PRODUCTS • SYSTEMS regarding environmental, technical, economic and societal aspects by using the methods of • LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT (LCA), • LIFE CYCLE COSTING (LCC), • LIFE CYCLE WORKING ENVIRONMENT (LCWE) Our first choice topics: • New forest based products and processes • Synthetic biofuels via gasification • Renewable materials for functional packaging applications • Impact and feed-back of climate policies on land use ecosystems in Europe

International Partnering Meeting, Winterthur, Switzerland Your benefits EU’s WORK PROGRAMME 2007: “Within the technological research activities, due consideration should be given to appropriate sustainability and Life Cycle Assessments, eco-innovation and eco-efficiency indicators…” “Throughout the whole FP7, research will target several issues … related methods such as Life Cycle Assessment.” We can attest with our methods and technical know how the improvement of your research regarding environmental (LCA), economic (LCC) and societal aspects (LCWE) and/or identify optimisation potentials as well in • RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT STAGE as in • PRODUCTION / RUNNING PROCESSES  to fulfil the European Commissions’ policy requirements.
