This study conducted by Jeremy White and Shane Esplin examines music genre preferences among Juab High School students. We surveyed the entire school population, utilizing both unbiased (simple random sample from 20 students) and biased (20 students from the Concert Choir) approaches. The findings revealed a strong preference for Pop and Country music, with Rock and Rap being less favored. Key challenges included the difficulty of reaching participants and identifying them. This analysis highlights the popularity of Country music among students while questioning the effectiveness of the biased sampling method.

Reason, Population, Biased/Unbiased • Reason: We conducted this survey to find out what genre of music is most commonly listened to among Juab High students. • Population: Our Population is all of Juab High School • Unbiased: For our unbiased sample we did a SRS of 20 random people in the school. • Biased: Our biased sample was directed to an SRS of 20 students in the Concert Choir.
The Question • What style of music do you prefer to listen to? -Rock -Pop -Classic -Country -Rap -R&B -Jazz -Christian -Other -Doesn’t listen to music
Concert Choir 3 for Rock-------(15%) 8 for Pop---------(40%) 7 for Country---(35%) 2 for Rap---------(10%)
School 2 for Rock------(10%) 6 for Pop--------(30%) 7 for Country--(35%) 1 for Rap--------(5%) 2 for Other------(10%)
Survey Challenges • There were 2 main challenges in our survey. They were not being there when we asked the question or if we did not know who they were.
Survey analysis • We noticed that Country music held the majority of the data, followed closely by Pop music. • Our Biased Survey didn’t work very well because there was pretty much the same interests in each sample.
