  4. Employee commitment • Commitment is defined by Gallup as the emotional commitment an employee has with work • This emotional commitment brings many benefits including willingness to expend discretionary effort

  5. Influencing commitment • Gallup’s research shows 12 actions by managers that build and maintain employee commitment • The first and most important of these actions is to set clear expectations • The question used for testing this is: Do I know what is expected of me at work?

  6. Setting and clarifying expectations is one of the most important actions a manager (and organisation) can take to build and support commitment and good performance That’s what the capability framework is – a set of expectations
