A Lot Of Your Heating Costs A Lot Of Your Heating Costs May Be Going Through The Roof! May Be Going Through The Roof!
Here is something you didn’t know. A large proportion of homes in the UK are wasting a lot of money. Why? It’s because we all need to heat our homes in the autumn and winter, and also early spring months, and quite simply, a lot of that heat is wasted. This can be for a number of reasons, but the two main ones are that the equipment producing the heat is not energy efficient, and then a lot of the heat that is produced is lost. This is because if your walls and roof – and even floor – are not properly insulated, much of the heat that you just paid for is going straight through them into the outside world. No doubt the pair of pigeons nesting on your roof are happy about that, but then they don’t have to pay the bill! In fact, you can lose up to one third of all the heat that you produce. The average heating bill for a 2-bed semi in the UK is just under £1,200 a year according to the company Usave Digital Ltd (https://usave.co.uk/energy/average-gas-and-electricity-bill-for-a-2-bed-house/). That means that as much as £400 a year is totally wasted. It’s much like taking 80 five-pound-notes and setting fire to them!
Energy Efficiency Ratings It is not just the heat that you lose, but the cost of producing that heat in the first place. Boilers in the UK are rated according to energy efficiency, and an A-rated boiler is at least 90% efficient. By contrast, many are G-rated which means that they can be as low as 60% efficient. Bear in mind that the figures in the previous paragraph are average figures, so if your boiler is only 60% efficient you will be wasting £480 a year. However, there is good news. If you have an older boiler, you may very well be eligible for home energy grants in Leicester. As part of the government’s drive to reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change, it has made grants available under the Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO). This provides grants for free replacement boilers for those over 12 years old to homeowners, tenants, and landlords in receipt of certain means- tested benefits. These benefits include housing benefit, pension credit, Universal Credit, employment and support allowances, and several more. You may also qualify for home energy grants in Leicester to cover the cost of insulation as well. For more information contact us at info@getafreeboiler.co.uk or call 0800 246 1797.
