  1. Geometry Lesson 0 – 4 & 0 – 5 Algebraic Expressions & Linear Equations Objective: Use the order of operations to evaluate algebraic expressions. Use algebra to solve linear equations.

  2. Algebraic Expressions • Evaluate x – 5 + y if x = 15 and y = -7

  3. -3(k2 + 2n) Evaluate:if k = -2, n = -4, and p = 5. -3[(-2)2 + 2(-4)] -3(4 – 8) -3(-4) 12

  4. Absolute value • Evaluate: If a = -2, b = -4, and c = 3. Drop absolute value and replace with ( ) after you do the absolute value.

  5. x – 7 = 16 m + 12 = -5 k + 31 = 10 Linear EquationsSolve the following: + 7 + 7 -31 -31 x = 23 k = -21 -12 -12 m = -17

  6. 4d = 36 Solve: d = 9 t = 56

  7. 8q – 15 = 49 12y + 8 = 6y - 5 Solve -6y -6y 8q = 64 6y + 8 = -5 q = 8 6y = -13

  8. Solve: • 3(x –5) = 13 3x – 15 = 13 3x = 28

  9. Solve • 4(x – 7) = 8x + 6 4x – 28 = 8x + 6 -28 = 4x + 6 -34 = 4x

  10. Homework • Pg. • P10 Evens • P12 Evens
