Bargaining 2012 • Union Priorities • Preserve as much as possible for as long as possible • Protect, expand and enhance contractual language that is not related to wages, hours and terms/conditions of employment • Language dealing with relationship between union and college, etc. • Qualify contractual changes as conditional on current law • Most traditional subjects of bargaining are out of our control and subject to unilateral change by the administration

  3. PACE Results • 280 PT Faculty responded to survey. There was a very late surge of 100+ respondents. • PT “population” = 1333 for survey purposes. 21% response rate. • 100+ more PT responses than 2008 PACE survey. • General trends • Admin are the happiest, followed by FT faculty • PT faculty and PSRP are least happy • Statistically significantly below national norms on most measures regarding: Institutional Structure, Supervisory Relationships, Teamwork. Strength is in Student Focus.

Open Union/Management Issues • Part-timer representation on AQIP committees • Provision of draft schedule for Summer 2012 and Fall 2012. • Overload scheduling investigation • Complaints regarding courses being “held back” from Non-Probationary PT faculty because they had been desired as overload for FT faculty • Investigation • Fall 2011: 120 courses assigned as voluntary FT overload • Spring 2012: 117 courses assigned as voluntary FT overload • Identifying potentially impacted PT faculty • Options: Negotiate with FT Union/ Admin, Grieve Issue/ Contract Action, Unit Clarification Action

Union Operating Issues 2012-13 • Uncertainties • Dues/income for union • Certification vote • Status of Act 10 • Mitigating Activities • Bargaining strategies • Creation of a Non-profit (with or without the employment agency component) • Legislative activities • Litigation to protect PT faculty under state whistleblower law.

  6. MATC Board of Trustees • Three seats up for appointment • Employer (Bultema) • Employee (Cavanaugh) • School District Superintendent (Bales) • Applications due 4:00pm, Friday 3/30/12 • Appointment public hearing on 5:00pm, Monday 4/30/12 • Term begins 7/1/12
