  2. What is UKPMC? • The UK-version of PubMed Central • Offers the PubMed Central collection of ~1,000,000 full-text life science articles, freely available online irrespective of library holdings • US and UKPMC mirror each other’s content

  3. Who provides UKPMC? • The British Library together with the University of Manchester and the European Bioinformatics Institute • The service is hosted by MIMAS, the national academic data centre

  4. Who funds UKPMC? • The development of UKPMC is funded by principal funders of biomedical research in the UK

  9. UKPMC Manuscript Submission System Two routes to get manuscripts in to UKPMC: • 1. Direct via publisher • e.g. publish in an open access journal • costs associated with ‘open access’ publishing met from research funding • 2. Author - upload a copy of the final manuscript via the UK Manuscript Submission System UK Manuscript Submission System • Go Live 8th January 2007 • Distribution of usernames and passwords

XML Conversion service suppliers • UKMSS submissions accepted in various formats – mainly PDF and MS Word • Documents are converted to XML using specialist conversion service • Suppliers selected Oct 2006 – contract start 1st Jan 2007 • Selection criteria – price, quality, speed, service level

  11. Grantee Data Load • 8 Funding bodies lead by Wellcome Trust • Grant data supplied - 9000+ Users, 16000+ Grants in total • Load to the UKMSS Admin system • Distribution of usernames and passwords • Updates • Phase 2 – Implementation of Microsoft CRM
