  4. Purpose of the SIG • The purpose of the proposed team of scholars is to form a cohesive community of scholars who will pursue the active study of determinants of health in Appalachia • Second purpose to enhance scholarly productivity in practice, teaching, and research

  5. Review of last year’s formal meetings • 9/4/12 – Decided to attempt to focus on a specific patient population, Reviewed NIH Field Guide for Team Science, Decided on teams for lit review paper, practice based research project, teaching paper. • 9/25/12: Team Collaboration, Myers Briggs Test • 10/23/2012: Negotiating Authorship • 1/15/2013: Ahead of schedule on outcomes, Talked about a grant proposal and variables

  6. Informal Meetings: Fostering Collaboration • Weekly writing days (usually Wednesday mornings) • Real-time Instant mentoring • Distance mentoring by email/phone • Impromptu Scholarship discussions at lunch • 15 minute standups in the kitchen • Hallway Consults
