  5. The Gold Standard Grandville Hockey has become and will continue to strive to be the gold standard of men’s varsity athletics here at Grandville Schools. This means you are a Student-Athlete under the following definition… • Being truthful, dedicated, and loyal to yourself and each other. • That you will continue to strive for success and that failure simply is another word for opportunity for further growth and development. • Our players are extensions of our community and are positive representatives throughout our community. Are players are expected to be young men of Character in our community. • It’s not about you, it’s about the program and our community!

  6. The Gold Standard Fitness+Academics+Community=Excellence (F.A.C.E. Challenge) High Conditioning Standards: • Pull Ups (17 or more) 32* • Push ups (60 or more) 120* • Mile run (6:15 or lower) 5:30* • Planks (3min. or longer) 6:15* High Academic Standards: • 2013-2014 Team GPA of 3.34 must be higher (50% of team had 3.5 or higher) Community involvement: (1/3 of the team put in over 20 hours of community service this year) • Volunteering in youth hockey organizations. • Mission work. • Helping home-bound or shut-ins.

Grandville Hockey • Each of you will be vying for an opportunity to play for one of the elite public school hockey programs in all of West Michigan. • The difference between a “great team” and a successful program is consistency. • With the beginning of the summer months your responsibility is to prepare yourselves and your potential future teammates for success. • We cannot afford those with a weak will or negative attitude. • Treat every day as a tryout opportunity, this includes returning players.

  9. Grandville Hockey We need Athletes that want to earn every bit of playing time possible and are strong enough mentally to accept the role and opportunity provided them. When given an opportunity, make the most of it. Ask yourselves… • How badly do you want to be a part of this team? • Can you handle training off-ice for 4-5 days per week until the season starts? • Are you mature enough for this commitment? • Will you do your best to achieve our standards athletically, academically, and socially?

  10. Summer Off-Ice Outline Weights and Core Begins Monday, June 6 @ GHS • Mondays 6-8pm @ GHS. (Coach Breazeale) • Wednesdays 11-1pm @ GHS. (Strength Coach Chapman) • Friday 11-1pm @ GHS. (Strength Coach Chapman)

  11. Summer On-Ice Outline Tuesday Evenings: • Summer League @ Georgetown Arena • Mostly prospects with returning varsity players mixed into line up. Wednesday Evenings: • Bulldog Clinic – Skills and Games • Open to all 8-12 graders. • Cost $185 (6 sessions). Thursday Evenings: • Summer League @ SS (for returning players and by invite only)

  12. Why put in the time? It will prepare you for how hard you will work …if you make this team!

  13. West Coast Shootout West Coast ShootoutJuly 25,26 & 27. • We will pick a team of 4 lines and two goalies. • The roster may rotate from one game to another. • This is by invite from the coaching staff only. • We will play 3 games. • Cost is paid for by the Grandville Hockey Boosters.

  14. Reading for the Summer • “Endurance” by Worsley • “The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt” by Edmond Morris. • “Training Camp” by Jon Gordon • “Season of Life” by Jeffrey Marx Why read? Because none of you are born leaders and all of you can improve upon your perspective on life. Each of you should be driven to better yourselves not only on the ice but in your heart as well as your mind.
