Abstract Contribution IEEE 802.19-09/68 raises some comments and questions to the draft PAR for TVWS Coexistence described in IEEE 802.19-09/60r1 Also contribution IEEE 802.19-09/68 proposes some new text for draft PAR for TVWS Coexistence This contribution raises some comments regarding some text proposals in IEEE 802.19-09/68 Stanislav Filin et al, NICT

Scope (1/3) • In contribution IEEE 802.19-09/68, the following text is proposed to be added to the Scope section of the draft PAR for TVWS Coexistence • “The standard consists of three main components: methods for discovering other networks within range which would benefit from the coexistence mechanisms, a common control channel between different networks and a logical mechanism for enhancing coexistence between networks.” Stanislav Filin et al, NICT

Scope (2/3) • Comments • The term “consist” limits the scope to: • Three components described in this paragraph • The way these mechanisms are described • While these three mechanisms have been discussed and described in contributions like IEEE 802.19-09/26r4, IEEE 802.19-09/44, and IEEE 802.19-09/56, it may be too early to limit the contributions to these three directions only • If somebody come-up with new mechanism during PAR duration, it will be rejected due to such paragraph in the Scope • On the other hand, if the wording is changed from “consist” to something like “may include,” then it is not very suitable for Scope section Stanislav Filin et al, NICT

Scope (3/3) • Proposal • When the draft standard become mature, it will be possible to put description of mechanisms / components, for example, into Section 1 Overview after Sections 1.1 Scope and 1.2 Purpose • For the PAR, it is better to keep the description of these methods in Explanatory Notes • Not to limit the scope so strictly at so early stage Stanislav Filin et al, NICT
