  1. PunctuationDefinition :- To bring clarity to our writing , we use a comma (,) , a full stop (.) , a question mark (?) , an exclamation mark (!) and inverted commas (“”) . These are some of the marks of punctuation . • The use of comma : - The comma marks the shortest pause . We use it to bring clarity of meaning in a sentence . Examples : - a) Ajay , Ali and sham went to school . b) Raja was an honest , obedient and helpful child . c) Well , let me try to do what can I do . 2) The use of an Apostrophe (‘) : - An apostrophe is used to show possession ; to write short forms e.g. do not – don’t , is not – isn’t , you will – you’ll . Examples : - a) Mina’s dress is untidy . b) Don’t make the noise. c) The men’s toilet is here .

  2. The use of inverted comma (“”) : - Inverted commas are used to enclose exact words spoken by a person . • Examples : - a) The teacher said , “Where there ‘s will , there’s way. • B) The women asked , “ Ram , where do you live ? “ . • C) “ I am going to Agra this weekend , “ said Ritu .

  3. The use of full stop : - The full stop is the longest pause . It is placed at the end of an assertive or imperative sentence . • Examples : - a) you must wait till I return . • B) He is a doctor . • C) Do not count your chicken before they are hatched .

  4. The use of an exclamation mark : - The exclamation mark is used after an exclamatory sentence , interjection and interjectional phrase . • Examples : - a) Hurray ! We have won the match . • B) What luck ! We found the gold coin . • C) What a beautiful scene it is !

  5. The use of capital letters : - The capital letters is also used as a punctuation mark in English language . • Examples : - a) We are Indians (first word of a sentence ) . • B) Sikhism , God almighty , Monday ( names of days of the week , religions and gods ) . • C) Tom sawyer , The Tribune ,My experiment with truth ( the title of a person , book or a newspaper)
