Geographical Location • Axum has a estimated population of 47,320 of which there are 21,898 females and 20,774 males. • This place is located in the Mehakelegnaw Zone of the Tigray Region which is near the base of Adwa mountains in Ethiopia. • There is a elevation of 2,130vmeters above the sea level.

  3. ~How they made their money~ • They traded and became rich due to the port of the Red sea. They traded as far as Rome to India and to china. It is written in three scripts, Sabaean, Ge’ez, and Greek. Of archaeological importance interest near the park is a tomb believed to be of that of Emperor Zäbe'esi Bazén (left), who is said to have reigned at Aksum at the time of the birth of Christ.   4. Religion • The original religion was a polytheistic religion which they believed in gods that controlled the natural world. • But in the fourth century King Ezana, converted to Christianity he declared this to be a Christian state.

  5. Role of women • African women are the ones who do the farming, and in most pre-industrial societies women did the cloth production, spinning and weaving. Pottery is often produced by women in agricultural societies also. And they would do all the usual things associated with women, caring for the children, preparing food, fetching water, looking after the sick etc.

  7. ~Places they took over~ • They took over the kingdom of Kush in about 300 AD, and Meroe in 350 AD

Types of houses • The central part of the town was buildings that were square or rectangular. • There homes were, large consisting of a lodge that was surrounded by four smaller buildings • These lodges was built on top of a pavilion, with a wide staircase leading to it. • The less wealthy ones lived in these homes surrounding the buildings.

  9. Government Structure • They had a king by the name of ‘Ezana he ruled from c.330-356 AD. He succeeded his father, Ella Amida and ruled the Axum empire ,when he was just a child with his mother as his supervisor, and regent. He took over the Kush empire during his reign.
