  3. Strategic Plan • FIU’s last strategic plan was the 2001-2010 Millennium Strategic Plan • The appointment of President Mark Rosenberg in the Fall of 2009 coincided with the need to develop a new strategic plan.

  4. President’s Vision Core Vision: • Becoming a leading urban public research university • Local and global engagement • Renewed emphasis on making sure every student counts • Embracing our identity • Four strategic themes—arts, environment, global, and health Enhanced Vision: Consistent Vision:

Timeline • August 2009: Hit the Ground Running • September 2009: White Papers Completed • March 2010 – August 2010 : Committees working on Strategic Planning • April 2010: Community Forums • August 2010: Initial Draft Completed • September 2010: Community Forums • December 2010 : Final Board of Trustees Approval • January 2011: Implementation Team Selected

Strategic Planning: Finance State/Federal Funding • Obtain adequate and realistic coverage of services provided by FIU • Focus on increasing non-resident students • Optimize future state and federal appropriations by strategically aligning FIU’s request Fund Raising • Align donors with institutional needs • Improve Advancement operations • Engage Alumni base

Strategic Planning: Finance Revenue Generation • Maximize Direct Support Organizations and Auxiliary Enterprises • Continue to increase online, tuitionplus and non-credit programs • Create efficiencies in operations (i.e. do things smarter) Research • Develop a central support unit for Principal Investigators • Expand grants and indirect cost recovery rates across the University • Expand intellectual property infrastructure

Strategic Planning: Infrastructure Physical Infrastructure • Assess and develop the administrative and physical infrastructure that promotes research.  • Provide a physical environment that is aligned with the learning needs of students, taking into account the urban nature of the university. • Transform the university into a sustainable campus • Develop an IT environment that supports and enriches students, faculty, and staff at any time and any location • Develop internal structures and reward systems to encourage and support effective implementation of the university's vision Internal Infrastructure

Strategic Planning: Student Success Student Success • Build an environment that identifies and supports a diverse student population • Devise activities that engage our students in their own education • Develop a plan that incorporates faculty/staff/alumni/community in supporting student success Academic Progress • Define, build and communicate expectations for all of our students at each level of their academic progress • Develop and assess programs and activities that enhance our student achievement
