  1. Area of Quadrilaterals by Jake Aronson, Ryan Listro, and Fred Guss Parallelograms: Squares Rectangles Rhombus Other: Kites Trapezoids

  2. What is a quadrilateral? A quadrilateral is a four-sided plane.

  3. What is a parallelogram? • A parallelogram is a four-sided plane that meets the following criteria: • Opposite sides are parallel • Opposite sides are congruent • Opposite angles are congruent • Consecutive angles are supplementary • Diagonals bisect each other

  4. What figures are parallelograms? • Squares • Rectangles • Rhombuses

  5. Area of a Parallelogram • Theorem 6.21: • The area of a parallelogram is the product of base and its corresponding height. 4 8 A=(8)(4) > >> >> >

  6. What other figures are quadrilaterals? • Kites • Trapezoids

  7. Postulate 22: • The area of a square is the square of the length of one of its sides. • Theorem 6.20: • The area of a rectangle is the product of its base and height. Area of a Square and Rectangle A=42 4 A=(4)(8) 4 8 4

  8. Trapezoid: • Area=1/2(Height)(Base1+Base2) • Rhombus and Kite: • 1/2(Diagonal1xDiagonal2) Area of a Trapezoid, Rhombus, and Kite 4 2 A=(1/2)(2x4) 3 A=(1/2)(3)(2+4) 4 2

  9. Helpful Hints • Area of a Square… Area of a SQUARE=SideSQUARED • Area of a Kite… Please DaD: (1/2)Product of DandD--(1/2)DaD

  10. Examples-Square The length of one of the sides is 3. What is the area of the square? 9 units 2

  11. Examples-Rectangle The length of one of the sides is 4, and the other is 6. What is the area of the rectangle? 24 units 2

  12. Examples-Kite The length of one of the diagonals is 5, and the other is 8. What is the area of the kite? 20 units 2

  13. Examples-Rectangle The height of the building is 350 feet and the width is 20 feet. What is the area of the building? 7,000 feet 2

  14. Examples-Rhombus The length of one of the diagonals is 16, and the other is 8. What is the area of the rhombus? 64 units 2

  15. Examples-Trapezoid The length of one of the bases is 2, and the other is 4. The height is 8. What is the area of the trapezoid? 24 units 2

  16. THE END • We hope you enjoyed our project… …and learned from it!!!
