Implementation Overrides for Venus Observations: Adjustments to Angles and Targeting Parameters
This document outlines the critical implementation overrides for Venus observations, including changes to the sun avoidance angle which has been adjusted from 50.25 degrees to 46.0 degrees. To preserve scheduling after the recent HST ephemeris change, the OBADs have been suppressed for the Venus visit 02 due to a computed position uncertainty of 91”. Additionally, guide star acquisition parameters have been altered to accommodate increased uncertainty, adjusting the primary spoiler radius accordingly and changing off-nominal roll degrees to ensure optimized pointing during Venus visits.

Implementation Overrides • Changed Sun avoidance angle from 50.25 degrees to 46.0 degrees for Venus obsets. • Suppressed OBAD at the beginning of Venus visit 02 to preserve scheduling spot after recent HST ephemeris change. • OBADs normally occur when computed position uncertainty is >70”. • Computed position uncertainty is 91” for visit 02. • Increased guide star acquisition time to allow for extra uncertainty.
Implementation Overrides • Disabled moving target tracking and parallax correction for Venus offset pointings in Venus visits. • Changed guide star request parameters • Obsets A1 (Venus), A2 (Venus), and 10 (GS aq. test) • primary single spoiler radius from 75” to 47” • Obsets A4 (Venus) and 11 (GS acq. test) • Off –nominal roll from 30 degrees to 5 degrees • Primary single spoiler radius from 75” to 39” • Primary double spoiler radius from 75” to 49”
Implementation Overrides • Changed guide star request parameters • Obsets 05 (Venus offset) and 06 (Venus offset) • Off –nominal roll from 30 degrees to 5 degrees • Obset A5 (Venus) • Off-nominal roll from 30 degrees to 5 degrees • Primary single spoiler from 75” to 47” • Ignore Earth avoidance constraint for post-Venus offset pointing. • Just a gyro pointing • No science happening
