Brief History • Discussions across the US between early adopters • Meetings at national conferences • GAO Report and EPA papers • Formed nucleus of interested asset owners • Developed concepts and outline for NAMS Council • Combined efforts with BAMI-I • Seeking federal assistance funds • Led to this conference for further input and participation

  4. NAMS Committee • The Owners perspective • Our membership – to date • Limited our scope of participation, initially

  5. What are the drivers? • How does my utility start? • Coordination – minimize duplicate efforts • Collaboration – sharing ideas, lessons learned • A single model of AM Education – mainly OJT • Research – Who is coordinating

  6. Current NAMS working concept • A National Asset Management Steering Council • Asset owner (Utility) focused – the industry practitioners – the business decisions • A common ground, sharing spot, coordinating body to advance AM • The agenda is best AM practices across the industry, big or small.

  7. Potential Agenda • AM definition and practice • Common framework for all to use, outreach • Focus coord on research, education • Common language and definitions • Share lessons learned • Mentors for the industry “We are all more alike than different”

  8. Potential Agenda (cont.) • Align Best Practices • Develop BMP’s available to all • Eliminate piecemeal implementation • Coord. voice with regulators and funding institutions

  9. Potential Agenda (cont.) • Education • Influence US university curricula • Tailor education to practitioner level, board members to line staff • Enhance public education and acceptance • Recognize that this is multi-disciplined, not traditional
