  2. Project Overview Creating a Healthy Cookbook Students will work this month to design and edit their healthy cookbooks using their newly updated recipes. Working in committees, they will design the cover, write the introduction, organize a table of contents, and reformat their recipes for a class book. Second graders will also review the Food Guide Pyramid and why it is important to make healthy choices. They will discover how and why fitness is part of a healthy lifestyle.

I Can: • Retell with facts • Read with fluency and accuracy • Identify multiple meaning words Reading Staying Fit Materials Needed Treasures book Comprehension Packet Noise Level 1 • Monday • Discuss the Talk About It on page 265. • Read Brian Gets Fit on the Field on pages 266 and 267to learn your vocabulary words. • Identify Multiple Meaning Words • Tuesday • Focus: Vocabulary and Inferencing • Read There’s Nothing Like Baseball on pages 268-283. • Wednesday • Focus: Multiple Meaning Words • Finish reading, There’s Nothing Like Baseball on pages 268-283. • Thursday • Focus: Contractions • Begin the comprehension packet on There’s Nothing Like Baseball. Writing a Letter “Motherly Advice” • I Can: • Write my opinion. • Write a letter using correct format Noise Level 1 • Monday • Begin your graphic organizer giving advice to Mrs. Glover about what makes a good mom. • Tuesday • Complete your graphic organizer. • Wednesday • Start your letter to Mrs. Glover. • Be sure to do your best work with your spelling, punctuation and handwriting. • Thursday • Complete your letter to Mrs. Glover. • Friday • If time allows, you may draw a picture to go along with your letter to Mrs. Glover. • Materials Needed • Graphic Organizer • Pencil • Paper • Letter template Project Connection: Healthy Choices Home

Self-Selected Reading/Accelerated Reader • I Can • Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension Noise Level 0 Choose a library book or a book of choice that you have not read. Be sure you picked a book that you can read alone. Silently read . After you finish your book, write the name of the book in your Data Binder. Be sure to fill in the information about your book in your binder. If you can answer all the questions in your Data Binder, get your laptop and log on to AR to take your test. Record your AR score in your Data Binder. • Materials Needed • Data binder • Book of choice
