Objectives of the course: • To enhance skills in assessing learning needs • To learn to identify one's own needs as teachers • To enhance the use of the principles of adult learning • Testing and revising of programmes for teaching of trainers in Family Medicine • Networking institutions involved in training in GP/FM from European countries. The course provides materials and enables participants to cascade their new competences through providing follow up courses

Content of the course: Session 1: Introduction Session 2: What is a good trainer Session 3: Practice organisation Session 4: Adult education theory Session 5: Learning styles Session 6: Personal learning plan Session 7: Teaching methods Session 8: Feedback Session 9: Designing the programme Session 10: Assessment Session 11: Plans for practical implementation The course was reproduced several times at national level – almost 2000 European Teachers and Trainers from 17 countries have already participated!

TheEURACT Assessment Course for Trainers in Family Medicine was held in Poland (Zakopane) 2007; Italy (Rome) 2008; Portugal (Faro) 2009; Turkey (Adana) 2010 Addressed to current or future trainers in General/Family Practice involved in one-to-one or university based teaching, wishing to improve their knowledge, skills and competence in the use of assessment methods Authors of the course: Prof. Justin Allen (UK, Course Director), Prof. Janko Kersnik (Slovenia), Dr. Monica Lindh (Sweden), Dr. Roar Maagard (Denmark), Dr. Roger Price (UK) and Prof. Smiljka Radic (Serbia)

Objectives of the course • To understand the different purposes of assessment • To understand the theoretical frameworks for assessment and the terminology used • To understand the assessment methodology most suited for general practice/family medicine • To develop skills in using the appropriate assessment tools,practice their skills in assessment and feedback in a secure learning environment • To understand the impact of assessment on teaching and learning, and on themselves as teachers • To be able to apply their knowledge and skills in their own context as teachers (time, level of students, place, country) The course provides materials and enables participants to cascade their new competences through providing follow up courses

The EURACT Advanced Teaching Skills Course Aimed at teachers of General Practice/Family Medicine involved in BME, Specialist (vocational) Training or CPD, with some prior knowledge and / or experience of teaching (for example through attending the EURACT/Leonardo Course for Teachers and Trainers) Active teaching methods High quality resource materials Enables participants to cascade their new competences Authors of the course: Prof. Justin Allen (Course Director, UK), Prof. Igor Švab (Slovenia), and Dr. Egle Žebiene (Lithuania)

The course is organised in three master-class style modules each consisting of two sessions of three and a half hours. • The topics are: • Teaching from the consultation • Managing problem trainees • Small group facilitation and leadership The course provides materials and enables participants to cascade their new competences through providing follow up courses
