Adam’s main complaint about his father is that he never praises Adam.

Joseph Simmons stops to see Moses Cooper to get his advice on a statement that he’s writing for the meeting.
When his father and Cousin Simmons go to the Committee meeting, Adam goes over to see Ruth.
