Fun Outdoor Games for Kids

Children today are spending more and more time at home playing games and using mobile phones. It is unsurprising and alarming at the same time. Reports suggest that children 8 years of age and younger spend more than 2 hours on average per day using electronic and mobile devices including laptops, smartphones and tablets. It is also found that 42 percent of all children have a tablet of their own. While these electronic devices can be good for their development and to keep them busy, it is also vital that kids get outdoors and spend time playing and moving around.

  2. Children today are spending more and more time at home playing games and using mobile phones. • It is unsurprising and alarming at the same time. Reports suggest that children 8 years of age and younger spend more than 2 hours on average per day using electronic and mobile devices including laptops, smartphones and tablets. • It is also found that 42 percent of all children have a tablet of their own.

While these electronic devices can be good for their development and to keep them busy, it is also vital that kids get outdoors and spend time playing and moving around. • It is not asked of you to pry the devices off your kids’ hands. All you need to do is include fun outdoor games for kids in their daily routine as well.

Here are some fun outdoor games for kids: • Giant slip & slide • You can easily make your own slip and slide with just a tarp, water outlet and a hose. • Lay the tarp and spray the tarp down with water. Connect a hose with a water outlet and let the water flow on the top of the tarp. Your won giant slip & slide is ready. • Kids can take turns by running across the lawn and sliding on the slippery, watery slide. Exciting game! Isn’t it!

  6. Flashlight tag • This game is best played once the sun sets down. Flashlight tag is perfect to be played outdoor on late-night block parties and birthdays. • The game starts with one player being designated the ‘seeker’ or ‘it’. • The ‘it’ is provided with a flashlight, while the other players find places to hide and hide themselves. • If the player who is ‘it’ spots any player, they shine the flashlight on him/her and then the person who was spotted becomes the next ‘it’.

Glow in the dark sports • Another game that can be played after sunset, although this game can be played outdoor as well as indoor. • It is a set of usual sports that can be played in the dark using glow in the dark items, hence the name ‘glow in the dark sports’. • There is glow in the dark football, volleyball, and much more.

  8. Jump rope challenge • Each player is provided with a plastic cup that is filled with water. • The game starts with spinning a jump rope. Then the players must attempt to step into the spinning rope, one at a time. • They are to jump three times, while spilling water as little as possible. The player who spilled the least amount of water will win the game.

  9. Mini Golf • Mini golf is another fun outdoor game for kids. It is simple, fun and easy to play. • While you may need to visit the place where mini golf is available, it can be set at your backyard as well. • Getting a portable golf simulator is yet another great option to play golf right at home or office.
