  2. Critical Thinking Question Include physical, psychological and social reasons in your discussion You are hired as a consultant for a collegiate athletic department. Your main job is to devise a program that will reduce the drug and alcohol use by athletes on campus. Discuss in detail what type of program you would implement, show how it relates to the reasons for substance use.

Defining Substance Abuse Substance abuse A maladaptive pattern of psychoactive substance use indicated by the following: Continued use despite knowledge of having • a persistent or recurring social, occupational, psychological, or physical problem that is caused or exacerbated by use of the psychoactive substance.
