  2. What is Video Editing? • The act of selecting, arranging, and manipulating video clips to tell a story.

  3. Where do you start? • FIRST: • Select a Project • SECOND: • Brainstorm the Project: • SCOPE (What’s it about?) • DEVELOPMENT (What do you need?) • EXECUTION (Where/When/How will you film?) • DELIVERY (How will you reach your audience?)

  4. Where do you start (cont.)? • THIRD • Develop SCRIPT/SCREENPLAY and STORYBOARD • FOURTH • Schedule Filming and Record Footage: • SECURE LOCATION w/ properauthority • SCHEDULE TALENT / CREW • SCHEDULE INTERVIEW(s) (if needed)

  5. Filming is complete… Now what? • NOW YOU CAN EDIT!!! • FIRST: • IMPORT Video/Audio • SECOND: • LOG Video Clips • (notate clips/shots/scenes) • THIRD: “LAY DOWN:” • Video Clips • Audio Clips

  6. Filming is complete…(cont.) • FOURTH: • Add Animations • Transitions / Effects • FIFTH: • Add Titles (Credits, Lower Thirds) • SIXTH: • Render / Export Video • SEVENTH: • Publish / Distribute

  8. VIDEO TRANSITIONS • CUT • - INSTANT shot-to-shot Transition • - NO Animation between shots • - Most frequently used Transition

  9. VIDEO TRANSITIONS • DISSOLVE / CROSS FADE • - A gradual change between shots/clips • - Shots/clips blend together • - Generally used to show a lapse in time

  10. VIDEO TRANSITIONS • FADE • - Similar to a DISSOLVE • - Shot/clip dissolves from/to another color • (usually BLACK) • - FADE TO BLACK / FADE IN (from BLACK) • (usually marks beginning/end)

  11. VIDEO TRANSITIONS • WIPE • - One Shot/Clip “pushes” another off-screen, or slides over another Shot/Clip • - Notorious in the STAR WARS films • - Generally used to mark a CHANGE IN LOCATION • - Examples include: “checkers, blinds, clocks…”

  12. WATCH OUT FOR….. • JUMP CUTS • - Two Shots that are cut together (that are framed in similar fashion). • - For Example (with the same subject): • Going from a Medium Shot to a: • Medium Close Up, or • Medium Long Shot • 180 Degree Rule • - Edit shots together on same side of imaginary line • Make sure you…. CUT ON ACTION!!!!
